Script #83

Four very important dates/whatevers for your calendar:

1. Don't forget the "Community Patriotic Program and Worship Service" at the Belvidere Community Building this Sunday at 10:00 a.m.  While I'm hoping to see lots of folks at our 7:30 a.m. worship service in the chapel, I'm also hoping most of us will double-dip (Get it?) and attend both opportunities to praise Him and plead with Him for America!  Nat, Mona, and Mayor Brereton have spent lots of time and energy in preparation for the community program and service along with many members of our family of faith who will be participating in the community choir and bell ringers.  Honor Him!  Support the family!  Help save America!

2. Friends, these are tight financial times in our nation, counties, communities, and churches.  As we praised God for the wherewithal to drain reserves to complete the first and biggest part of our "Blessings Campaign" with joy and anticipation and praise Him for the quick movement to the second phase (check out what's happening next to the entrance to the Gathering Room and watch for what will be happening before the parousia near the...), our wherewithal for general expenses (maintenance, utilities, remuneration, etc.) is lagging and we are already praising God for His answer through faithful family members who have been especially blessed by him with the $ to make sure we don't have to...

3. A summary of Sunday's 7:30 a.m. message will appear via and in the near future ("America's Way Back!).

4. Speaking of messages, "Scratching the Surface" for the born again and recently renewed/revived will officially commence in worship on September 23; however, previews will be included via,, and beginning next week.  Here's the dedication to the related book as a hint of what's coming: "Dedicated with thanks to everyone who finally convinced me to say it simply!"  Watch for the preface in the first KD after the one including "America's Way Back!"

Staying with #4 a tad longer, I am more excited about life and ministry than ever before and even more than I was on 5/8/77!!!

I am more excited about the corner of Lincoln and Main being a beacon for Jesus and safe haven for all of His children than ever before; and as I feel I am just scratching the surface of my personal relationship with Jesus, I believe we are just scratching the surface of our corporate relationship with Him.

Uh, simply, I have more energy and excitement for Him and His than ever before and even more than I had on 5/8/77!!!

Script #80

Though summer is upon us, our life and ministry increasingly experiences the refreshing wind of the Holy Spirit as we increase intimacy with Him through Jesus.

A new adult education class commences this Sunday and Deeper Discipleship continues on Wednesdays.  Go to for more information.

Speaking of things heating up, our franchise aka denomination known as the Presbyterian Church (USA) will be in the news in the next few weeks as our big meeting (General Assembly) convenes and does its thing which we pray will be His thing.  Anyway, check out the below - "The Dirty Secret Why People Leave Churches" for some of my parochial concerns - and if you're interested in "fair and balanced" reporting, go to for the best summary of news impacting modern ministry.  You will also want to check out other interpretations via and to decide for yourself.  You're gonna hear and read a lot about this meeting; and if you're depending upon local rags for disclosing the truth in a John 3:19-21 kinda way, you're gonna be disappointed.  So dig a little in the aforementioned sites and sift out the good, bad, and ugly.

Joshua 24:14-15.

Script #78

Don't forget to invite your favorite father or grandfather or father-in-law or father of someone you know to meet our Father this Sunday at 7:30 and 10:00 a.m.!

Speaking of missing stuff (KD - "Designed to Make People Think" - noting some people don't like to...), I've had some computer glitches as well as dropping some addresses just to see who...  So if you know someone who feels slighted/overlooked because they're not getting scripts or anything, let us know and we'll add...

Speaking of e-mail lists, we receive regular requests from businesses, members, and others for e-mail addresses of our members for a variety of reasons.  I have instructed our staff that it is not our prerogative to provide such information because people are increasingly touchy about that kinda thing.  I mean, personally, if I'm added to one more ED mailing list...

I have edited/exorcised my KD mailing list; and if you want 'em and are not getting 'em, just let me know.  If you don't want 'em, you have two choices: (1) Learn how to use the delete function on your computer so your request to be dropped doesn't hurt my feelings because I have feelings just like you; or (2) Hurt my feelings and ask to be dropped without...

Anyway, if you're still reading, the next KD, always easily accessible by clicking on will have some very important information for folks interested in the Spiritual flow of our family of faith at First.

I'm serious.

Of course, if you're not interested...  Oh, what's that line from Joshua?

Again, Kathie will get it from me in 24 hours or less/more and it will be posted shortly thereafter.

Blessings and Love!

Script #77

First, a big "Thank You!" to everyone praying and participating in this year's VBS which kicks off on Sunday at 6:00 p.m.

Second, lots of people have asked about "the unforgivable sin" and we are going to explore what Jesus said about that on Sunday at 7:30 and 10:00 a.m.

Third, June 10 begins the next chapter of our exciting life and ministry together through and for Jesus with thanks for the watershed moments of the preceding weeks of confirmation and dedication.

Fourth, I ask your prayers for calm clarity as I preach next Tuesday at our stated meeting of Blackhawk Presbytery.  The text is Matthew 23 and message seems to be about moving beyond darkly inspired pride, separation, and segregation to true peace, unity, and purity through and for Jesus.

Finally, I am convinced the greatest impractical sin exposing a lack of intimacy with Jesus is pride.  It's listed among the deadliest of sins because it is so close to the problem of Matthew 12:31-32.  It murders relationships with Him and His.  Indeed, it exposes complicity with that warning.  Pride is when we have the audacity to claim to know more than God has revealed in Jesus and the Bible; and it plays out when we pretend to know more than anyone else about anything and can't bring ourselves to forgive people who have hurt us and ask forgiveness from people who have been hurt by us.

Pride really exposes itself when we enable it in others as well as ourselves.

Let me put it another way.

Jesus said, "I will build My Church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."

In other words, a prideful person thinks the world, country, state, community, denomination, or even local church just can't get along without her/him.  What pride!  While our Lord wants us to be a part of it/Him, He will always provide reinforcements for the remnant because His Church is not dependent upon anyone or anything but Him and those who know it/Him.

Or something like that.

Anyway, the point is we are all invited to use what He has given to us to honor Him and help His.

Anything/anyone else or less than Him is really, uh, unforgivable.

Blessings and Love!

Script #76

Everything about everyone involved in worship on "Dedication Sunday" honored Jesus and deepened bonds through and for Him!

Praise the Lord!

There have been several requests for the prayer following the Litany of Dedication of Blessings Campaign (attached).

Here's a summary; noting the full version is available as recorded via

Lord, we thank You for everyone who partnered to expand
this wineskin through prayer, encouraging commentary,
sacrificial offerings of self and substance, and unconditional
favor in His Spirit, "As you do it for others, you do it for Me."

We thank You for Dale, Carl, Pat, Rick, their predecessors,
everyone listed on the green insert, our immediate and
extended family of faith, and, especially, Your Holy Spirit
to overcome the spirits of doubt, contentment, complacency,
selfishness, irreconcilability, pride, defiance, and rebellion.

It hasn't always been easy.  Sometimes it's been downright
painful.  Feelings have been strained, energies exhausted,
excuses betrayed, dark rationalizations exposed, and exits
enabled; yet, thankfully, true discipleship radiated, fidelities
    deepened, and storms stilled.

Of course, we know there's more to be done.  There's still
an omission, hole, that must be filled; and, right now in
hearing...[and reading]...,You as Holy Spirit are calling,
compelling, and convicting the able by Your grace to step
    up and materialize.

Now we begin afresh in concert with You: "Behold, I make
    all things new!"

We can no longer settle for business as usual, the way things
were or maybe were but are no more, self over service, me over
we, I over Thou, or anything or anyone distracting us from our
highest goal, greatest ambition, and most fervent prayer of
saying the things that Jesus would say and doing the things that
Jesus would do to be a beacon for Him and safe haven for
all as perfectly patterned by Jesus in whose Name we pray.

Blessings and Love!
