Beloved,
If you're interested in some
inspirations/indigestions from my recent wedding in Florida, click on www.koppdisclosure.com for Detour or Deepening?
Speaking of
inspirations/indigestions, I preached at the stated meeting of Blackhawk
Presbytery on 6/12; and while that's not especially noteworthy to anyone at
First or anywhere else, there's a story behind that inspiring/indigesting
moment.
Aurora, Illinois' Westminster
Presbyterian Church hosted the meeting; and the host pastor is supposed to
preach at the worship service prior to the business session.
Chuck, our friend and my covenant
brother who has preached here and is Westminster's pastor, told me that I was
going to preach.
I said I did not want to preach at
the presbytery meeting because I get enough of people judging me and my
sermons at First and it's even worse when a bunch of clergy...
You know what I mean.
Despite my protests, he insisted.
Well, about an hour before the
service, he revealed why he insisted I preach: "I asked God what I was
supposed to preach about; and He told me, 'Kopp is supposed to preach.'"
Whoa.
Anyway, some members of First who
heard it have insisted that I preach that sermon at First. Again, I did
not want to because it's pretty, uh, intense. They have insisted.
So I will preach it this Sunday at 7:30 and 10:00 a.m.
It's either the most prophetic or
pathetic...
You be the judge.
I'm just trying to be faithful;
recalling what I tell homiletics students: "If it's not worth preaching
twice, it's not worth preaching once."
Getting back to Chuck, he
recommended this link on "courage" to me from his alma mater and I'm
passing it on to you.
Blessings and Love!
