Below is a tract from Dr. Kopp regarding the Armor of God. We
must arm ourselves with the Armor of God every day to defeat
satan!
When Attacked
An older pastor told me how to distinguish the Lord's light from
darkness many years ago:
God does not want to
tear us down, pick us apart, burn bridges, fracture families,
degrade, denigrate, devastate, or destroy us.
That's the work of
Satan.
God builds bridges,
relationships, friendships, families, and reconciles, heals,
helps, includes, enables, elevates, enlightens, and encourages.
Satan says, "You're no
good. You're bad. You're useless. You don't belong."
God says, "Come to me."
God invites and
includes.
God loves.
The attacks come at our
moments of vulnerability.
Denise Frangipane
noted, "Satan is a master of illusions. He plays upon our
weaknesses and exaggerates our problems."
So if your marriage is
weak, he'll send a Jezebel to seduce you into sin. If you're low
on money, he'll provide an opportunity to steal. If you're being
abused, he'll push you to abuse. If you've been hurt, he'll
provide somebody to hit. If you've got unresolved problems from
the past, he'll present occasions to repeat them.
Satan's goal is to beat
up and break down the family of faith.
That's the bad news.
Here's the good news
from James: "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the
devil and he will flee from you. Draw near to God and He will
draw near to you" (4:7-8).
It cannot be stressed
enough that behind the purveyors of life's meanness, madness,
and misery is Satan. While acknowledging the accomplices, the
author of darkness is Satan. That's why Paul fingered both as he
introduced the equipment for battling them (see Ephesians
6:10ff.):
Be strong with the
Lord's mighty power. Put on all of God's armor so that you will
be able to stand firm against all the strategies and tricks of
the Devil. For we are not fighting against people…but against
the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against
those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against
the wicked spirits in the heavenly realms.
Using the metaphor of a
Roman soldier preparing for battle, Paul described the equipment
which our Lord has given to us to live victoriously (see
Ephesians 6:13ff.).
Keep a few things in
mind as you prepare for battle: (1) Our strength is in the Lord.
Read Psalm 46 and sing A Mighty Fortress Is Our God; (2) Wearing
all the armor is required for victory. A little-dab'll-do-ya
isn't enough; and (3) If Satan is up to no good in your life,
you must be doing something right! John Eldredge wrote in Wild
at Heart (2001), "Do you know why there's been such an assault?
The enemy fears you. You are dangerous big-time." Satan attacks
when we're honoring God, helping people, and advancing the
Kingdom. Darkness only conspires to detour, discourage,
devastate, and destroy people and churches on the cusp of the
total commitment to Jesus which will bless Him and His with
extraordinary extravagance.
Putting on the armor
every day is essential to victory.
Here's a summary of how
I do it:
Lord, I thank You for
providing all I need to live victoriously.
Aware of the dark
influences conspiring to move my mind from You, I close the
psychic door; barricading it with the cross of Christ and
sealing it with His blood. Knowing You have granted volition to
me, I only open this door for You.
I wear the helmet of
salvation which is lined with the promises of Your affection and
protection. Making all thoughts captive to You and protecting my
mind which is a battleground for spiritual warfare, this helmet
covers my ears, eyes, and mouth so I do not hear, see, or speak
in unGodly ways. I do not hear who or what will distract me from
Your holiness. I do not see who or what will distract me from
Your holiness. I do not speak words that will insult Your
holiness and injure Your people.
I place the breastplate
of righteousness over my heart which is the wellspring of my
life - emotionally, intellectually, and spiritually. This is not
my goodness. It is Your great graciousness which protects me.
You make me right by Your sacrificial
death and eternal love.
I wear Your belt of
truth. You, Lord Jesus, are the truth here and now and
hereafter. Your truth protects me.
I wear Your gospel
shoes of peace; therefore, I can stand firm, balanced, and
always ready to follow You through life to eternity. Firmly
footed, I look up, stand up, speak up, and act up for You.
I take the shield of
faith, my trust and confidence in You as saving Lord, to protect
me from the fiery darts, deceptions, lies, assaults,
accusations, and all other dark strategies of Satan. With the
hinges of this shield, I am linked to all of the saints for
protection - family, home, possessions, and church - in the
midst of spiritual warfare.
I wield the Sword of
the Spirit which is the Bible. The Bible contains Your pure
prescriptions for living victoriously. The Gideons are right:
"Its doctrines are holy, its precepts are binding, its histories
are true, and its decisions are immutable. Read it to be wise,
believe it to be safe, and practice it to be holy. It contains
light to direct you, food to support you, and comfort to cheer
you.
Here paradise is restored, Heaven opened, and the gates of hell
disclosed." Defensively, I can distinguish light from darkness -
the lies of Satan from Your truth - because of the Bible.
Offensively, I can bring love, light, and salt into the world
because of the Bible.
I wrap myself in the
mantle of praise because You "inhabit" the praises of Your
people. As my praises go up, Your blessings come down.
I place Your cross
before me as a banner and guide. I have decided to follow You!
No turning back! The cross before me! The world behind me! No
turning back! Though none go with me, yet I will follow You! No
turning back!
Thank You, Jesus, for
protecting me from here to eternity as I pray in Your holy,
holy, holy name. Amen.
Francis Frangipane
often says, "How do we defeat the enemy? Victory begins with the
name of Jesus on our lips; it is consummated by the nature of
Jesus in our hearts."
Remember, when Satan
attacks, "One little word shall fell him!"
Jesus!!!
